Mau and Kerio Region Conservation Project
Historically in Kenya and elsewhere in the world, the relationships between local communities and institutions mandated with natural resource management have been strained. However, this relationship is not fated to be negative. With proper education and the participation of local communities, environmental conservation can become a constructive partnership rather than a perpetual struggle. Educating communities about the environmental consequences of their actions and the importance of conservation is crucial to ensuring the effectiveness of conservation efforts as well as a productive relationship between the government and the local community. The programme has two two projects: Mau RehabilitationProject and Sustainable Livelihoods Support Project.
To save Mau Forest Complex; an important ecosystem hosting one among the five water towers in Kenya, Scope Intervention has partnered with Kenya Forest Service (KFS) to adopt 100 Ha of deforested
land for rehabilitation under Mau Rehabilitation Project. The Organization is also hosting the local Community Forest Association (CFA) and other community groups under Scope Alliance Secretariat where it is working to improve their capacity in sustainable environmental conservation.
Sustainable Livelihoods Support Project is a project that is improving the communities resilience and adaptation to climate change. It enhances the capacity of the local communities to fight climate change while promoting sustainable livelihoods that can withstand climate relates catastrophes.
For a sustainable conservation, behavior change is vital and Scope Intervention is working to nurture a culture of environmental responsibility. Generation Green was designed by Scope Intervention as a means of conserving our environment with particular emphasis to schools and the communities around them. The program works to promote a culture of human rights and responsibilities among the school going children, aiming at nurturing a culture of tree planting as it strives to improve the forest cover and build a generation that is passionate about fighting climate change and conserving our environment. The program also introduces children to the principles of human rights and life skills education. It has among its components, issues that address health, water and sanitation, environmental awareness, tree planting with particular emphasis to multi-purpose trees and species especially fruit trees for nutrition in schools.
Green and Clean Urban
Green and Clean Urban is a project designed to develop and promote green and clean urban centers that are habitable and environmentally safe. The project is intended to address key issues related to waste management, green buildings, urban beautification, landscaping, slum improvement and afforestation among others and set the platform for sustainable development and green economy in urban centers.
